Hurricane Beryl’s Rapid Intensification “Unprecedented” For This Early In The Season

The rapid intensification of Hurricane Beryl into a Category 5 storm has broken multiple milestones, including the earliest Category 5 hurricane (July 17, 2005), earliest Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic (July 8, 2005), the earliest Category 4 east of the Caribbean (August 7, 1899), and the earliest storm with this unusual rate of intensification (September 1).

As Extreme Heat Adds Extra Stress to the Power Grid and Increases the Risk of Outages, Utilities are Encouraged to Enhance their Power Resilience

With the U.S. already facing record temperatures in the early summer season, extreme heat waves over the next few months will most likely add stress to the power grid and increase the chances of outages. And with power outages due to extreme weather on the rise, water and wastewater utilities are encouraged to re-assess their current preparedness efforts and work to enhance their power resilience.
