EPA's Supply Chain Case Studies Offer Best Practices to Enhance Resilience

Supply chain disruptions can emanate from a variety of contingencies and can lead to operational impacts for water and wastewater utilities. To help mitigate the risk of supply chain shocks, EPA’s Water Infrastructure and Cyber Resilience Division (WICRD) has created several resources and products, including case studies that offer best practices to help utilities enhance their resilience.

An Independent Investigation into the 2023 Hawaii Wildfires Offers Preparedness and Resilience Recommendations to Reduce Risk

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety has released its report on the 2023 Lahaina Wildfire, which details the results of its post-disaster investigation into the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century. The report provides lessons learned and recommendations for protecting against future wildfires of that magnitude.

Analyzing the Growing Risk to Dam Infrastructure and Methods for Enhancing Resilience

Recent flooding in Minnesota has underscored critical vulnerabilities in aging dam infrastructure, continuing a pattern of concern over flood impacts in the Midwest and revealing the need for significant upgrades to cope with modern climate conditions. Consequently, the risk to damn infrastructure is increasing, however, utilities can utilize FEMA’s Dam specific resources to help enhance the resilience of this critical infrastructure.

FEMA Releases Updated Continuity Guidance Circular Document

Last week, FEMA released an update to its “Continuity Guidance Circular” (CGC) document. This resource is intended to help stakeholders in both public and private organizations build continuity capabilities. The document details the fundamental concepts to unify the application of continuity principles, planning, and programs in communities across the nation.
