NOAA Researchers Predict High Tide Flooding May Lessen Across the U.S. in Latest Report

Last week, NOAA released its “2024-25 Annual High Tide Flooding Outlook” report. NOAA researchers predict fewer high-tide flood days than last year. The outlook details high-tide flooding events from May 2023 to April 2024 at 97 NOAA tide gauges along the U.S. coast. It also provides a flooding outlook for these locations through April 2025 accompanied by decadal projections and sea level rise scenarios out to 2050.

The FEMA Planning for Dam Emergencies Collaborative Technical Assistance (CTA) Program has reopened its FY24 application cycle, with the application window closing on Thursday, August 15. The CTA Program aims to enhance the emergency preparedness of communities with dams through a variety of targeted sessions and resources.

The Columbia Climate School has published a research report that outlines recent extreme weather events in the U.S., such as heat waves, floods, and wildfires, which have put significant stress on existing infrastructure and have led to power outages, infrastructure damage, and increased operational risk. The report also offers recommendations and guidance on creating more climate resilient infrastructure, which can more effectively withstand increasing extreme weather events.

EPA Updates Supply Chain Situational Awareness Website – Status of CO2 Availability for Drinking Water Treatment

EPA has posted a general update on its website on the status of carbon dioxide (CO2) availability for drinking water treatment. This update provides an overview of CO2 production in the U.S., issues that can impact regional availability, and use of alternate grades of CO2 for drinking water treatment.  

CISA Publishes Resources for Onboarding and Employment Screening to Help Manage the Risk of Insider Threats

Last week, CISA released a new resource, "Resources for Onboarding and Employment Screening," designed for critical infrastructure leaders, human resources (HR) personnel, and managers at any level. This fact sheet provides actionable recommendations and resources for vetting and screening of individuals prior to hiring into an organization. Overall, the goal in conducting personnel vetting and background checks is to reduce the potential for insider threat activity.
