Torrential rains across the Midwest this summer have resulted in severe impacts to water infrastructure highlighting the need for utilities to engage in preparedness activities to mitigate the predicted and continued increase in extreme precipitation events across the U.S. and around the world. CSU Publishes Updated Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast, Continues to Predict an Extremely Active Season

This week, Colorado State University’s (CSU’s) Tropical Meteorology Project released an update to its “Forecast of Atlantic Seasonal Hurricane Activity and Landfall Strike Probability for 2024.” The updated forecast continues to predict an extremely active season, with the rapid intensification of Hurricane Beryl last month likely a harbinger of storm activity for the remainder of the season.

Upcoming Deadlines for FEMA Grants and Other Funding Opportunities for Preparedness and Resilience Efforts

The deadlines to apply for two FEMA funding opportunities geared towards enhancing preparedness and resilience efforts are at the end of this month. In addition, WaterISAC is sharing other funding opportunities water and wastewater utilities can apply for to help with enhancing their operational resilience.
