US-Canada Joint Water Management Commission Targeted by NoEscape Ransomware Gang

The Record has written an article discussing the apparent targeting of the International Joint Commission, a US-Canada organization responsible for managing water systems along the border of the two countries, by the NoEscape Ransomware gang.

The criminals have claimed they’ve stolen “80 GB of contracts, geological files, conflict of interest forms and more” while the ICJ has confirmed it is responding to a “cyber security incident.” This incident demonstrates the popularity of water-related infrastructure as a target for cybercriminals, which is why CISA has recently announced it will be offering free vulnerability scanning services to water and wastewater utilities. This effort is the topic of WaterISAC’s September Cyber Threat Briefing, where any member of the public can register here. Read more at the Record.
