November Is Infrastructure Security Month: Drive Down Risk, Build Resilience

This theme for the 2022 Infrastructure Security Month is “Infrastructure Security is National Security. Together We Can Drive Down Risk, Build Resilience,” which reminds everyone about the essential services provided by critical infrastructure and the need to keep them secure to support national security, the economy, and the overall way of life.

While a significant focus of this initiative entails public education, CISA has also produced resources specifically applicable to critical infrastructure owners and operators. On its Infrastructure Security Month webpage, CISA has posted a toolkit containing guidance and resources. It includes a brief discussion of the current threat environment and lists of information and resources for understanding risks, training and preparing for potential incidents, and reporting suspicious activity. While there are many actions infrastructure owners and operators can take in the short-term, there are many activities that require long-term investments in planning and financing. For those who have not yet begun that journey, ideally this month serves as motivation to get started. To assist with these activities, in its Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month proclamation the White House notes recently pass legislation and other federal activities, such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is supporting investments in resilience. As noted in the proclamation, “The choices we make today to strengthen our critical infrastructure are going to affect our country and our world for several generations to come.”
