FEMA Releases “Publication 1,” Explaining Its Mission and Role in Emergency Management

Author: Charles Egli

Created: Thursday, November 21, 2019 - 17:26

Categories: Emergency Response & Recovery, Federal & State Resources

Yesterday, FEMA released the third edition of Publication 1, a document that seeks to help the whole community, including individuals and organizations, better understand the agency’s mission and role in emergency management. It includes “What We Do” and “How We Do It” sections, describing FEMA’s roles prior to, during, and following disasters. It also includes an interesting history of FEMA, defined by the roles it has filled as the federal government’s emergency management agency across different eras, leading up to the present period of “Sharing Responsibility Across the Nation.” Inserted into this section is a listing of FEMA’s ten regions, with the areas they cover and the locations of the main offices. To help promote and further explain the document, FEMA has also posted a short video featuring remarks by Acting FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor. Access the document and video at FEMA.
