Summary: On Monday, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) released an alert advising organizations to take action following the conflict in the Middle East. While the alert indicates direct threats to the UK remain low, water utilities face heightened risk from Iran-linked hacktivists, especially those with regional exposure or supply chain connections.

Analyst Note: For the water sector, the primary concern is indirect or collateral impact, particularly from hacktivist activity targeting industrial control systems. WaterISAC encourages sector operators to remain vigilant in their monitoring efforts, review public-facing attack surfaces, and reinforce DDoS and phishing defenses. WaterISAC further encourages members to regularly review WaterISAC’s continued updates regarding the Iran-conflict.
