Longtime Al Qa‘ida Leader Killed in U.S. Drone Strike in Kabul

Yesterday, the U.S. government announced al Qa‘ida leader Ayman al-Zawahri  was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Kabul, Afghanistan on July 30. Zawahri had been the leader of al Qa‘ida since the death of Osama bin Laden in 2011. Before that he was the deputy commander of the group and helped to coordinate the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) have published a Joint Intelligence Bulletin discussing the potential impacts following the recent death of a terrorist leader. FOR U.S. MEMBERS. Full article
