Proofpoint – Cybersecurity Predictions for a Turbulent 2023

Last week, cybersecurity company Proofpoint released an assessment of cybersecurity predictions for 2023. Notably, Proofpoint forecasts that the commercialization of malware and other exploitation tools on the dark web will likely lead to an increase in cybercrime. The assessment also predicts that ongoing geopolitical tensions, such as the continuing Russian war in Ukraine, will likely catalyze new cyber attacks and expand systemic risk for organizations. In addition, Proofpoint expects MFA bypass attacks to increase – WaterISAC has been closely tracking MFA bypass attacks and reported on multiple incidents involving Microsoft, Twilio, Cloudflare, and Cisco. Lastly, Proofpoint forecasts that the supply chain will be increasingly weaponized, with threat actors exploiting organizational trust in third-party vendors and suppliers. This last assessment is supported by previous research which found that more than half of organizations surveyed reported a ransomware compromise somewhere in their supply chain. Read more at Proofpoint.
