New Climate Mapping for Resilience and Adaptation Tool

Last week, the Biden Administration, in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Department of the Interior (DOI), launched the Climate Mapping for Resilience and Adaptation (CMRA) portal. This easily accessible and interactive geospatial website aims to help communities understand potential climate-related hazards that could impact their critical infrastructure and residents.

The CRMA portal allows users to track climate-related hazard impacts in real time across the country. Specifically, it offers geospatial data on extreme heat, drought, wildfires, inland flooding, and coastal flooding.  Additionally, the portal includes a CMRA Assessment Tool, which allows users to analyze projected long-term exposure to climate hazards impacting their area and can help plan for the construction of more resilient infrastructure. Finally, the CRMA portal provides guidance and resources for identifying federal funds to support climate resilience projects in local communities.

“Building climate resilience starts with communities, leaders, and other decision makers understanding their specific climate threats,” said NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad, Ph.D. “CMRA provides the public with the same NOAA-powered data that the federal government relies on every day to make sound decisions about climate preparedness.
