Build Disaster Resilience in August through Case Studies, Grants, and Exercises

With numerous natural disasters having recently occurred or looming, August is a fitting time for Disaster Resilience Month, when FEMA highlights information and resources communities and other partners can leverage to build resilience and reduce disaster loss.

To help encourage communities to consider and invest in resilience, FEMA has posted numerous case studies about specific past projects. Many of these involve water and wastewater utilities as well as other types of infrastructure. Most, if not all, of these projects received funding from federal grants. Given the importance of this funding to help make ideas a reality, FEMA has also posted information for partners to learn about these opportunities, such as the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). FEMA’s Disaster Resilience Month website also lists upcoming webinars on resilience this month, which focus on its grant programs. Additionally, although not discussed on the Disaster Resilience Month webpage, the Climate Adaptation Exercise Series is among the latest tools FEMA has released to help communities become more resilient. On the Climate Adaptation Exercise Series webpage, visitors can access the products and other information from past events conducted in FEMA regions. Read more at FEMA.
