Categories: General Security and Resilience

WaterISAC is pleased to announce Daniel Przybyl has received its Splash Award, which is given to a person who has demonstrated leadership and dedication to securing the water and wastewater sector. Daniel recently retired as the Director of Information Technology at the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA), where he worked for 16 years.

WaterISAC Director of Preparedness and Response Charles Egli presented Daniel with the Splash Award in-person in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. More than just serving the community where Charles went to college (the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), Daniel supported the entire sector by participating in WaterISAC’s COVID-19 Working Group and Cybersecurity Advisory Committee. Charles and Daniel interacted frequently during the COVID-19 Working Group, as WaterISAC staff and members discussed the pandemic’s impacts on the sector and identified information and resources to help utilities endure this unprecedented challenge. As a member of the Cybersecurity Advisory Committee, Daniel again shared his time and expertise to help inform discussions about threats to the sector and tools that could be useful to utilities. His involvement in these groups helped guide WaterISAC’s activities, ensuring it was aware of and focused on the issues of top concern to utilities as well as disseminating actionable information and resources. Daniel was also a regular participant in other WaterISAC engagements, including its monthly Water Sector Cyber Threat Web Briefings, and a supporter of the WaterISAC mission and improved security and resilience for water and wastewater utilities. Thank you, Daniel – you are already missed, and we hope you enjoy your much-deserved rest and relaxation!
