Underground Storage Tank (UST) Finder (EPA)

EPA recently released the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Finder, an online mapping tool providing access to localized information on the attributes and locations of leaking underground storage tanks (LUSTs), UST facilities, and USTs across the U.S. The tool also includes data on the proximity of these sites to surface and groundwater public drinking water protection areas and private domestic wells, which can help identify potential risks to public and private drinking water supplies. As described in an accompanying fact sheet, even a small amount of petroleum or other hazardous substance leaking from a UST can contaminate surface water or groundwater. Additionally, the tool features data on the number of people living nearby and extreme events like flooding, wildfires, and earthquakes. Given the potential for USTs to be impacted by these events, this information can be used by emergency response personnel to rapidly identify facilities, control releases, and protect the public.
