Summary: WaterISAC is proud to participate in a new partnership with Cyware, a provider of threat intelligence management and collaboration tools. Through this partnership, WaterISAC will use Cyware’s AI-powered platform to improve how threat intelligence is collected, analyzed, and shared across the water and wastewater sector. Through the partnership, WaterISAC will use Cyware’s AI-powered platform to support intelligence collection, enrichment, and response. The platform reduces the manual work involved in turning raw threat data into timely, relevant products for members.
WaterISAC Executive Director Tom Dobbins described the partnership as a natural next step after WaterISAC’s partnership with the National Rural Water Association (NRWA), which extends WaterISAC’s reach to more than 20,000 of the sector’s smallest utilities. WaterISAC selected Cyware after a rigorous evaluation of available platforms. The goal is to help WaterISAC analysts deliver more real-time insights to members and to extend that capability directly to larger utilities.
Analyst Note: The water sector includes tens of thousands of utilities with widely varying cybersecurity resources. Threat intelligence only helps when it reaches the right people quickly and in a form they can act on. A newly disclosed vulnerability in a common remote access product, or an IOC tied to activity against a neighboring utility, loses value with every hour it takes to reach the utilities exposed to it.
By automating much of the collection and enrichment work, the partnership frees WaterISAC analysts to focus on what matters most to members. That work includes assessing relevance to water and wastewater environments, adding sector context, and producing clear, practical guidance.
The partnership also reinforces the value of two-way sharing. Collective defense depends on members reporting what they observe, so that one utility’s experience can warn many others. Useful reports include suspicious activity, phishing attempts, and incidents. WaterISAC encourages members to keep reporting to WaterISAC and to watch for updates on how the partnership will enhance member resources.
