(TLP:CLEAR) EPA Hosting Annual Water Sector Threat Briefing Next Month

TLP:CLEAR

Author: Alec Davison

Created: Thursday, January 29, 2026 - 15:20

Categories: Cybersecurity, Federal & State Resources, Physical Security

Summary: Next month, EPA’s Office of Water Emergency Response and Cybersecurity (OWERC), in partnership with WaterISAC, the FBI, CISA, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is offering a virtual threat briefing that will be held on February 26, 2026.

Analyst Note: One of WaterISAC’s top recommend actions to strengthen a utility’s physical security is “Conduct Awareness Training of the Threats and Risk Facing the Sector,” which ensures employees and contractors understand the physical security threats facing the water and wastewater sector and their role in prevention. Utilities are encouraged to utilize this free threat briefing as part of their employee awareness training.

Accordingly, the EPA briefing will be unclassified; no clearance is required. It will provide an overview of information on the following topics related to water and wastewater sector security threats and preparedness:

  • Potential threats to critical infrastructure (cyber and physical)
  • What to do in the event of a cyber or physical intrusion
  • Water security and preparedness products and services

VIRTUAL (ZOOM)
The briefing will be offered virtually via Zoom. A personalized meeting link will be sent to all participants upon registration confirmation. Register by going to EPA’s website at the link below.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Water and wastewater owners and operators
  • State, Local, Tribal and Territorial water and wastewater program personnel
  • Water sector association and organization representatives
  • EPA Regional personnel
  • Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies

Please register by February 24, 2026.
