(TLP:CLEAR) EPA Hosting Annual Water Sector Threat Briefing Next Month

Summary: Next month, EPA’s Office of Water Emergency Response and Cybersecurity (OWERC), in partnership with WaterISAC, the FBI, CISA, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is offering a virtual threat briefing that will be held on February 26, 2026.
Analyst Note: One of WaterISAC’s top recommend actions to strengthen a utility’s physical security is “Conduct Awareness Training of the Threats and Risk Facing the Sector,” which ensures employees and contractors understand the physical security threats facing the water and wastewater sector and their role in prevention. Utilities are encouraged to utilize this free threat briefing as part of their employee awareness training.
Accordingly, the EPA briefing will be unclassified; no clearance is required. It will provide an overview of information on the following topics related to water and wastewater sector security threats and preparedness:
- Potential threats to critical infrastructure (cyber and physical)
- What to do in the event of a cyber or physical intrusion
- Water security and preparedness products and services
