(TLP:CLEAR) Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025 – Building a Cyber Strong America
Created: Thursday, October 2, 2025 - 13:10
Categories: Cybersecurity, Federal & State Resources, Security Preparedness
Summary: October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a global effort to help everyone stay safe and protected when using technology whenever and however you connect. This year’s theme, Building a Cyber Strong America, highlights CISA’s mission to serve as the nation’s leader in cybersecurity. The campaign calls on all levels of government and organizations of every size to take part. It encourages state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments, small and medium-sized businesses, and supply chain partners to adopt proactive measures that strengthen the security of the Homeland against ever-evolving threats.
Throughout October, we’ll be focusing on “the Core 4”, simple but powerful actions that everyone can take to strengthen our cybersecurity:
- Use strong passwords and a password manager
- Turn on multifactor authentication
- Update your software
- Recognize and report scams
Join us today and throughout this month to bolster your security awareness program! In each consecutive SRU during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, WaterISAC will be distributing a convenient, easy-to-read, one-page handout to pass along to users to help augment your security awareness refreshers and reminders. The handouts will be consistent with each of the Cybersecurity Awareness Month’s four key behaviors, “the Core 4” (listed above). Pass ‘em out and post ‘em up!
Become a Champion!
Every organization is invited to demonstrate its support for Cybersecurity Awareness Month by becoming a Champion. This year, WaterISAC is once again a Champion, and joins fellow ISACs/ISAOs, water and wastewater utilities, and other water sector entities as a Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025 Champion Organization.
Becoming a Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champion (National Cybersecurity Alliance) or partner (CISA) provides you with ready-made resources and a toolkit to demonstrate your support. Most importantly it includes a presentation and other content to share with your employees for security awareness training and reminders.
California Water/Wastewater Cybersecurity Online Series
WaterISAC is also proud to partner with Santa Clara Valley Water Agency, who is hosting a free online cybersecurity series workshop (see flier below). The sessions occur on each Wednesday in October at 10:00 – 11:30 PM, PST starting October 8th. Speakers from Cal-CSIC, I&C Secure, FBI/InfraGard, and CISA will present. Register for each free session using the flier below!
