Summary: For National Preparedness Month, WaterISAC encourages water and wastewater utilities to consider taking advantage of the many free resources available from EPA. These resources fall under EPA’s Real Water Technical Assistance (RealWaterTA) Initiative, Strengthening Water Infrastructure for Tomorrow (SWIFT) Program, and Cybersecurity for the Water Sector resources.

Analyst Note: Through RealWaterTA, water and wastewater utilities can receive direct technical assistance to maintain regulatory compliance, identify infrastructure solutions, and build utility technical, managerial, and financial capabilities. The RealWaterTA offerings include Engineering Support, Tackling Emerging Contaminants (TEC), and Training and Technical Assistance for Small Systems, among others. SWIFT also provides technical assistance, aimed at helping water and wastewater utilities strengthen their resilience to natural hazards and disasters. Additionally, SWIFT offers access to resources like the Resilient Strategies Guide, the Vulnerability Self-Assessment Tool (VSAT), and Hazard Maps. EPA’s cybersecurity resources include technical assistance and information on how to build a cyber response plan and obtain funding to support increasing cyber resilience.
