Keep an Accurate Asset Inventory

You can’t protect what you don’t know you have. Maintaining a current inventory of hardware, software, and connected operational technology (OT) assets helps water utilities identify systems requiring security updates, prioritize vulnerability remediation, and respond more effectively during an incident. Regularly reviewing and updating asset inventories also helps uncover unauthorized or forgotten devices that could increase an organization’s attack surface.

Additionally, utilities that maintain a current OT asset inventory will be better positioned to be selected for potential upcoming funding opportunities.
