Supply Chain Integrity Month

April is National Supply Chain Integrity Month. CISA is partnering with the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), the Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD), the Department of Defense, and other government and industry partners to promote the importance of supply chain resilience and offer resources for organizations to strengthen their supply chains.

Study: Federal Flood Estimates for Los Angeles Significantly Underestimate Actual Impact

Smart Water Magazine has written an article covering a recent study by researchers from the University of California, Irvine titled Large and Inequitable Flood Risks in Los Angeles, California. Utilizing a more accurate and granular flood model, the paper finds current flood impact assessments for the metropolitan area are inaccurate to the point of the number of people at risk being 30 times greater than what federal plans account for.

2021 Western North America Heat Wave Scientifically Proven to be Unprecedented

Researchers from Columbia University’s Climate School have published a study proving the 2021 heat wave that hit the western half of North America, killing 1,400 people and setting new temperature records, was the most intense heat event seen in the area in over 1,000 years. Scientists drew this conclusion after utilizing core samples from trees to create a “year-by-year record of summer average temperatures going back to the year 950.”

Updated National Risk Index Provides Fuller, More Accurate Community Data on Natural Hazard Threats

FEMA has released a significant update to its National Risk Index (NRI), a dataset and online tool intended to help illustrate risks to U.S. communities from 18 natural hazards. The updates were made to the data, methodology, and website to meet the needs of users and improve the quality of the NRI.

EPA Releases Supply Chain Resilience Products for Utilities

To prepare for future supply chain disruptions and increase the sector’s overall resilience, EPA developed resources and data about supply chains for 46 chemicals that are critical to the water treatment process.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a series of supply chain disruptions have threatened the supply of chemicals necessary to treat drinking water and wastewater. To help alleviate future potential disruptions EPA created the following products:

CSIS Report Discusses Federal Government Actions to Improve Climate, Supply Chain Resilience

The Center for Strategic and International Studies has published a report titled Innovation for Resilience, the culmination of a year-long effort involving independent research and expert interviews. The study examines the methods through which the U.S. government can best promote resilience in four areas: the workforce, climate security, supply chains, and cybersecurity.
