In an announcement released this morning, the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) stated the tap water from its water treatment plant on the Delaware River remains safe to drink and use at least through midnight tomorrow (March 29) following a chemical spill. PWD also noted no contaminants related to the spill have been detected in its system and that it expects there will continue to be no detectable levels at its Delaware River intake by Wednesday or Thursday and the event will be resolved by next week. PWD and other utilities in the region are monitoring for contaminants following the spill of a latex product from a manufacturing plant on Friday, March 24 that affected a tributary of the Delaware River near Philadelphia.
