Today is Safer Internet Day, a worldwide event aimed at promoting the safe and positive use of digital technology for all users. This year’s theme is “Together for a better internet,” which encourages everyone to play a part in creating a safer, more secure internet. While much of the focus of this year’s theme is on children and caregivers, its promoters make clear that is intended for everyone, including for people in industry and decision makers. For those in industry, the Safer Internet Day initiative encourages them to help create a better internet by providing and promoting positive content and safe services online, and by empowering users to respond to any issues by providing clear safety advice, a range of easy-to-use safety tools, and quick access to support if things go wrong. For decision makers, the initiative emphasizes they must provide a culture in which the conditions for a safe and positive internet experience can function and thrive. The Safer Internet Day website includes a variety of resources and documents to help spread awareness and promote internet best practices. Access the Safer Internet Day website.
