Typically, people think of cyber attacks occurring on their personal or work computers. However, mobile smartphones, which many people use for banking, business communications, and other sensitive activities, are also prime targets for cyber threat actors. Consequently, some of the top threats to Android and Apple smartphones include, but are not limited to, phishing and more specifically smishing (SMS text phishing), SIM hijacking, spyware, financial malware, open Wi-Fi, and ransomware. To defend against these threats, users should practice basic cyber hygiene as they would on their work computers, download an antimalware program on your mobile device, delete suspicious apps, minimize the permission levels of apps on their phones, and physically protect their phones with a passcode and other access controls. Indeed, a compromised mobile device connected to an organization’s enterprise network could serve as the initial access point for threat actors seeking to breach a business, underscoring the importance of securing a mobile device from malicious cyber threats.
