The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has published the 2019-2022 National Health Security Strategy, its quadrennial plan for strengthening the nation’s ability to prevent, detect, assess, prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies. The new strategy focuses on three overarching objectives: 1) prepare, mobilize, and coordinate a whole-of-government approach; 2) protect the nation from the health effects of emerging and pandemic infectious diseases and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats; and 3) leverage the capabilities of the private sector. This latest strategy, as well as other policies and guidelines developed under the current leadership, takes the whole-of-government concept a step further by investing in strong partnerships with the private sector. The end state is a whole-of-nation approach to health care security. Access the report at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
