Hurricane Preparedness Week – Take the Time to Prepare Now with Atlantic Season’s Official Start Less than a Month Away

This week, May 9 to 15, is Hurricane Preparedness Week, a time when individuals and organizations in hurricane-prone areas are encouraged to complete preparations before the official start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season on June 1. Each day this week has its own theme, such as determining risk, checking insurance policies, and completing a plan. For these and other themes, the National Weather Service (NWS) has created a webpages that provide information and link to other resources. While many of these resources were developed with individuals and families in mind, much of the content is still applicable or can be tailored to organizations. Moreover, organizations can disseminate these resources to their employees, helping them to be prepared and the least impacted if their area experiences a hurricane. As with last year’s Hurricane Preparedness Week, the NWS notes that preparedness actions may need to be adjusted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with the latest health and safety guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local officials. For more information on preparing for hurricanes during the COVID-19 pandemic, WaterISAC encourages members to access the CDC’s “Hurricanes and COVID-19” webpage and FEMA’s “Hurricanes” webpage. Access the Hurricane Preparedness Week webpage at the NWS.
