According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Douglas continues to approach the main Hawaiian Islands, potentially passing dangerously close to, or over, the islands late tonight through Sunday night. The NHC adds Douglas brings a triple threat of damaging winds, flooding rainfall, and dangerously high surf.

Watches and warnings are in effect for portions of the Hawaiian Islands.

As of 8:00 AM HT, Douglas had maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. Douglas was located about 390 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii and moving west, northwest at 18 mph. Gradual weakening is expected through the weekend. However, Douglas is still forecast to be near hurricane strength when it nears the islands. Read the forecasts at the NHC and AccuWeather.
