Categories: Federal & State Resources, General Security and Resilience

This week, FEMA published the National Continuous Improvement Guidance, which provides an approach to conduct consistent and rigorous continuous improvement activities before, during and after real-world incidents.

The guidance is intended for the whole community, including state, local, tribal and territorial partners; non-governmental organizations; the private sector; and other organizations with emergency management functions. It is based on government and industry best practices, scalable and flexible to support organizations of every size, and accompanied by a suite of resources. The guidance can be viewed based on a reader’s level of experience with continuous improvement activities and/or the maturity of an organization, including a category for resource constrained organizations. Accompanying the guidance, FEMA also released the Continuous Improvement Considerations for Emergency Management Leaders guide, which provides a short summary of considerations for emergency management leaders regarding the potential positive outcomes for supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Access the guidance at FEMA.

FEMA is hosting a series of 60-minute webinars to launch the National Continuous Improvement Guidance, on November 1, 7, and 17 and December 2 (Spanish-speaking session) and 13 The webinars will provide an overview of the guidance and discuss revisions based on feedback from the national engagement period held earlier this year. Guest speakers will discuss the importance of continuous improvement in emergency management. To register for a webinar, visit https://preptoolkit.fema.gov/web/cip-citap/events.
