FEMA, Argonne National Laboratory, and AT&T Collaborate to Release New Climate Risk Projections Tool

The U.S. Department of Energy, FEMA, and AT&T have announced the launch of the Climate Risk and Resilience Portal (ClimRR), whose purpose is to provide state and local leaders as well as emergency planners with localized data about future climate risks in order to produce more accurate emergency planning outcomes and to help improve America’s preparedness for future climate extremes.

Accordingly, ClimRR provides communities with free access to specified data about future climate hazards that can be used to explore strategies for resilience. Current datasets include temperature, precipitation, wind, and drought risk, while wildfire and flooding data are the next planned expansions. The climate projections offered by ClimRR can be combined and overlayed with the existing Resilience Analysis and Planning Tool (RAPT). Combining data from ClimRR and RAPT allows users to understand local-scale climate risks in the context of existing community demographics and infrastructure, including the location of vulnerable populations and critical infrastructure.
