Water Sector Physical Threat Briefing: Understanding Physical Security Threats to the Lifeline Critical Infrastructure Sectors

Wednesday, April 15, 2026, 2-3pm ET

On April 15 at 2 pm ET, WaterISAC will convene the next event in its quarterly Water Sector Physical Threat Briefings series. Presenters from the Electricity-ISAC, the Public Transportation-ISAC, and the Communications-ISAC will detail the physical security threats facing their respective sectors.

The water and wastewater sector is dependent upon other critical lifeline functions—including the energy, transportation, and communications sectors—to ensure continuous and reliable operations to the communities it serves. In recent years, physical threats, plots, and attacks against these critical infrastructure sectors have notably increased.

To help us understand these threats, WaterISAC is excited to host a cross-sector panel of ISAC
analysts as they break down the increasingly complex physical threat environment critical
infrastructure organizations face. Hear from Sofia Weir, Sr Physical Security Analyst with Electricity-ISAC, Stephanie Woods, Lead Advisor with National Security and Emergency Preparedness at Lumen, and Polly Hanson, Senior Director‑Security, Risk & Emergency Management at the PT-ISAC, as they provide an overview of the threats posed by different malicious actors, from domestic violent extremists and foreign terrorist organizations to common criminals and insiders. They will also discuss these actors’ tactics, which have been demonstrated in real-world incidents and discussed in extremist publications and online forums.

With a widening range of threat actors targeting critical infrastructure organizations for a
variety of malicious purposes, now more than ever it is crucial to understand the heightened
threat environment.
