Last week, EPA announced that it had withdrawn its controversial interpretive memorandum, which would have required states to include reviews of public water system cybersecurity practices as part of periodic sanitary surveys. The agency did not announce any specific plans to immediately replace the memorandum with a new policy on water cybersecurity. However, officials stated that EPA will continue to promote technical assistance and funding opportunities to help water and wastewater systems improve their cyber posture.

In July, a federal court paused implementation of the memorandum after three states challenged its legality. Last week, EPA informed stakeholders that the memorandum was rescinded because of the litigation. Read more at AMWA.
