EPA Publishes Wildfire Conditions and Risk Map for Utilities

EPA has published the Wildfire Conditions and Risk Map for Water Utilities, a new tool intended to help water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities understand wildfire risk by visualizing current and historical wildfire conditions.

The map provides information on current, past, and potential future wildfire conditions in the U.S. for utilities to assess the potential for wildfire near their facilities or within their watersheds. Using these maps and links to data resources, utilities can improve their understanding of wildfire risk in their area, which helps them maintain and deliver adequate, reliable, and sustainable water supplies and services. This new resource also discusses drought given its relevance to wildfires. EPA encourages utilities to explore its Streamflow Projections Map, which is also a Creating Resilient Water Utilities program, for information on how drought affects utility operations. Access the tool at EPA.
