Justifying cybersecurity spending is an age-old challenge. Those of us who came through the technology ranks are quite familiar with being a “cost” center and not a money maker. But technology grew to where the many benefits and cost savings to productivity and other facets can be measured. However, cybersecurity seems destined to always remain a “cost” of doing any business – that involves technology, from IT to OT systems. Critical infrastructure industry veteran Dale Peterson suggests making the case in financial terms after working with finance to understand what level of loss gets their attention, and the best language and positioning to make your case for an OT security spend.
