The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the FBI’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate, and a range of organizations are teaming up in a national improvised explosive device (IED) awareness campaign called Operation Flashpoint. The purpose of Operation Flashpoint is to safeguard relevant products and facilities, identify suspicious activity, and report concerns to law enforcement. “Through in-person outreach and CISA’s Bomb-Making Materials Awareness Program (BMAP), businesses receive free guidance, educational videos, and training resources that are common sense, simple to implement, and have minimal impact on operations.” Additionally, the national goals of Operation Flashpoint include providing early detection of the sale of bomb-making material, preventing theft of precursor chemicals, and creating a network of vigilant and informed stakeholders. There are many resources for interested parties seeking to get involved, such as free counter-IED awareness training offered by CISA and being a “Vigilant Employee” video. Find out more at CISA.
