Incident Report – 2025 New Year Attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas

Yesterday, in the early morning hours a U.S.-based assailant drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans killing over a dozen individuals as part of a terrorist attack. The homegrown violent extremist (HVE) reportedly pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State before committing the attack underscoring the heightened threat of extremist targeted violence inspired by foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs). Separately, an individual detonated a Tesla Cybertruck outside a Trump-affiliated hotel in Las Vegas, which authorities are investigating as a possible act of terror. As of this writing, the investigations remain ongoing with more information likely to be released in the coming days. WaterISAC is sharing this report with its members for situational awareness.
