Ransomware Awareness – Study Breaks Down Ransomware Attacks by Sector

A recent study of ransomware attacks between July and September 2021 reveals that the banking, utilities, and retail sectors are the most targeted industries. The utilities sector was the second most targeted by ransomware during the time period, accounting for 20 percent of detected attacks. All three sectors in combination accounted for 58 percent of all detected attacks. Utilities present such an attractive target because of their role in providing vital services for society to function and the potential impacts that could occur if services were shut down, thus prompting utilities to potentially seek a quick resolution during an incident. As always, members are encouraged to visit CISA’s Stop Ransomware page for guidance and resources for defending and recovering from a ransomware incident. Read more at Zdnet.
