EPA - Water Utilities Take Action: Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool

As part of National Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, U.S. EPA reminds water and wastewater utilities of its Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT). This tool is a climate risk assessment and planning application for water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities. Utilities can use CREAT to understand the impacts of climate change, assess adaptation options, and conduct cost-benefit analyses of risk reduction strategies. EPA.

EPA - Being Prepared for Water Utilities

As part of National Critical Infrastructure Security & Resilience Month, U.S. EPA is reminding utilities about its Community-Based Water Resilience (CBWR) Tool. The CBWR tool can be used to host a community-wide meeting or workshop, assess preparedness, and find water resilience resources. In addition, EPA also has a Public Awareness Kit available for mailing inserts, brochures, public service announcements, and videos to convey the value of water and wastewater services in the community.

EPA Releases Guidance for Online Monitoring of Source Water Quality

U.S. EPA has published a guide for monitoring the quality of source water with online tools. According to EPA, source water monitoring (SWM) can be implemented into a water quality surveillance and response system (SRS). The guide covers best practices and lessons learned from existing SWM systems. The guide is one of many SRS resources being produced under the Water Security Division’s Water Quality Surveillance and Response program.

EPA Publishes Review of Technologies for Legionella Control

U.S. EPA has published a scientific literature review of technologies for Legionella control in premise plumbing systems. The document was developed in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state drinking water program representatives. The document covers risk management approaches, treatment options, and results from different types of studies.

U.S. EPA – Communication System Design for Water Quality Surveillance and Response Systems

U.S. EPA has released a new guide - Guidance For Designing Communication Systems - for water utilities considering to develop a water quality surveillance and response systems (SRS) to detect and respond to water quality incidents, including intentional contamination. Data communications for an SRS is the means of transmitting data – such as data from monitoring and automated metering infrastructure components – to the utility control center.

EPA - National Preparedness Month: Laboratory Support

EPA has posted this week’s resilience resource as part of National Preparedness Month. This week’s focus is laboratory support. When water contamination events occur, laboratories provide vital analytic services. EPA suggests preparing for water contamination emergencies by connecting to a laboratory network. The Water Laboratory Alliance (WLA) is a nationwide network of laboratories that serves the water sector. Laboratories and utilities are encouraged to join the WLA. EPA.

EPA Releases Updated Climate Resilience Tool and Climate Scenarios Map

EPA launched on August 15 Version 3.0 of the Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT). CREAT 3.0 is now a web-based tool with a much-improved intuitive user interface compared with previous versions. To access the tool, users must register to receive a login and password. All analyses generated in CREAT belong to the user and are not accessible to other users.
