FEMA Urges Communities to Prepare for Peak 2022 Hurricane Season, Shares Flood Resilience Tools

As we head into the peak of what is projected to be an above-average hurricane season, FEMA is urging communities to prepare before the height of hurricane season. The agency announced important resources to help people before, during, and after a disaster, including a new FEMA webpage to help the public protect themselves and their property from the nation’s number one disaster – flooding.

CSU Releases Updated Extended Range Forecast for the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Last week, the Colorado State University’s (CSU’s) Tropical Meteorology Project released an updated version of its Extended Range Forecast of Atlantic Seasonal Hurricane Activity and Landfall Strike Probability for 2022. The researchers continue to predict well above-average activity for the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.

The Joint Counterterrorism Assessment Team (JCAT), comprised of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), DHS, and the FBI, just released a "Terrorism Prevention" trifold pamphlet to aid organizations in stopping violent extremists from radicalizing, inspiring, or recruiting individuals towards the point of mobilizing to commit acts of violence. Terrorism prevention requires a whole-of-society approach and collaboration among Federal, state, local, and nongovernmental stakeholders.

Kansas River Dye-Tracing Experiment Aims to Provide Critical Information to Assist Responses to Water Incidents

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists and partners are conducting a unique study that involves injecting dye into the Kansas River, with the ultimate goal of providing information to assist in responses to potential critical events like harmful algal blooms and contaminant spills.
