In the Security & Resilience Update for May 4, 2021, WaterISAC shared The Ghosts of COVID-Past – Cybersecurity Considerations for Returning to Workspaces as we begin taking up residence in our offices once again. Among other facets, the post included the importance of computer/device patching and upgrades. In a similar post, Forescout considers what it is dubbing “device decay” and emphasizes the need for organizations to proactively reevaluate security policies and procedures in preparation for returning workers and their devices. Perhaps some cybersecurity best practices were lax prior to the COVID mass exodus. There is no better time than the present to reinvigorate fundamental initiatives to bolster your cybersecurity posture. WaterISAC’s 15 Cybersecurity Fundamentals for Water and Wastewater Utilities highlights some of the same things Forescout recommends, such as asset inventory, patching, continuous monitoring, and security awareness. Read more about factors influencing “device decay” and best practices to improve network defense at Forescout.
