Summary: This week, CISA released its new strategy, “CISA 2030: Defend, Harden, Prevail,” which outlines the agency’s vision for strengthening national cyber defense, securing critical infrastructure, and enhancing resilience in an increasingly complex threat environment.
Analyst Note: The threat landscape facing critical infrastructure continues to evolve rapidly. Hostile nation states and other threat actors are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their efforts to compromise U.S. networks and critical infrastructure, according to CISA’s press release. In response, CISA is prioritizing proactive, risk-informed strategies to identify emerging threats, strengthen defenses, and maintain the continuity of essential services.
CISA 2030 is built around three pillars:
- Defend: Lead National Cyber Defense
- Harden: Prioritize National Infrastructure Security
- Prevail: Mobilize National Resilience
Through these pillars, CISA will collaborate with government and industry partners to secure operational technology, strengthen software security, promote the safe adoption of emerging technologies, improve risk-informed decision-making, and enhance emergency communications and operational continuity.
CISA established a phased timeline for implementing the strategy. Within 60 days, the agency will review its core services and capabilities to ensure alignment with its strategic objectives. Within 180 days, it will develop an implementation and performance measurement framework aligned with its guiding pillars and key objectives. Within 365 days, CISA will report on its implementation progress. Ultimately, the strategy reflects CISA’s belief that securing the nation’s critical infrastructure requires close collaboration across government, industry, and communities nationwide.
