(TLP:CLEAR) WaterISAC – EPA: National Security Information Sharing Bulletin – Q3 2026

Summary: WaterISAC and EPA have released the latest quarterly edition of the National Security Information Sharing Bulletin (ISB), developed for water and wastewater utilities. Each issue focuses on key security and resilience topics, including cybersecurity, physical security, and operational resilience.

This quarter’s National Security Information Sharing Bulletin centers on artificial intelligence (AI) as both a growing threat and a defensive tool for the water and wastewater sector. Our feature article examines how AI is reshaping the cyber-threat landscape, while also exploring how utilities can harness AI for continuous threat detection, sensor analytics, and faster incident response. The issue’s featured interview is with three water utility IT directors discussing threat trends, IT and operational technology (OT) convergence, incident response, workforce culture, and low-cost security solutions. This issue also covers a CISA alert on active targeting of internet-exposed programmable logic controllers (PLCs), guidance on safeguarding sensitive operational data amid AI-related public records requests, the growing physical security threat posed by drones and drone swarms, and more.

The ISB is a joint effort by the EPA Office of National Security and WaterISAC, with support from the EPA Office of Water and the Water Sector Coordinating Council. It aims to raise awareness and promote security and preparedness across the water and wastewater sector.
