Today, President Donald Trump released an “America’s Cybersecurity Workforce” Executive Order, laying out a vision for supporting and fostering cybersecurity practitioners in both the public and private sectors who serve as “guardians of our national and economic security.” Among other highlights, it states the U.S. government “must facilitate the seamless movement of cybersecurity practitioners between the public and private sectors,” “support the development of cybersecurity skills,” and “create the organizational and technological tools required to maximize the cybersecurity talents and capabilities of American workers.” The Executive Order contains sections for strengthening the federal and national cybersecurity workforces. In the latter section, it sets the goal “to strengthen the ability of the Nation to identify and mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities…,” with one required step being for multiple U.S. government departments to provide a report within 180 days that “Identifies and evaluates skills gaps in Federal and non-Federal cybersecurity personnel and training gaps for specific critical infrastructure sectors…” Read the Executive Order at the White House.
