EPA Requesting Inputs on Projects to Prepare Water and Wastewater Utilities for Power Outages

EPA’s Water Security Division (WSD) is seeking input and assistance from its partners on two specific activities in 2018 to prepare water and wastewater utilities for power outages. For the first project, the WSD requests input from drinking water and wastewater utilities, water associations, state primacy agencies, and federal partners on existing content and potential updates to the Power Resilience Guide for Water and Wastewater Utilities.

EPA Increase Power Resilience at Your Water and Wastewater Utility

EPA has posted a power resilience guide and video to enable drinking water and wastewater utilities to continue operations in the event of power outages. Water utilities can increase their power resilience by improving their relationships with their electrical power providers and local emergency management agencies. As resources and funding permit, water utilities can secure generators and develop fuel management plans to maintain operations without grid power. Onsite power and energy efficiency also offer opportunities for water utilities to manage their power requirements.
