If so, that can indicate that the person or group posting the information is trying to manipulate you.

U.S. Intelligence Officials Warn of Foreign Government Election-related Activity Intended to Incite Social Unrest

During a public briefing yesterday, top U.S. intelligence officials, including Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliff and FBI Director Christopher Wray, described some of the malicious activities foreign governments have taken ahead of the upcoming presidential election. In one example, they discussed how Iran had sent spoofed emails to voters that were intended to intimidate them. One of the goals of these efforts appears to be to incite social unrest.

CISA Launches Webpage to Help Partners Understand and Address Disinformation and Misinformation

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has just launched a #Protect2020 Rumor vs. Reality webpage, in which it addresses some common disinformation and misinformation rumors that can undermine public confidence in the electoral process. The webpage lists the disinformation or misinformation rumors, provides factual information to counteract this information, and offers resources to support these facts.

CISA: Employee Vigilance through the Power of Hello

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has published two new resources on the Employee Vigilance through the Power of Hello, including a two-sided slick sheet and an 11x17 graphic. The resources were created by CISA to empower employees to observe and evaluate suspicious behaviors, mitigate potential risk, and obtain help when necessary. 

NOAA Winter Forecast: Cooler and Wetter in the North and Warmer and Drier in the South, Persisting Drought in the West

The southern U.S. will experience warmer, drier conditions in the coming months, while in the North it will be cooler and wetter, according to a winter weather forecast recently released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These conditions are expected due to La Nina being well-established and expected to persist through the upcoming winter season. According to the forecast, La Nina will also influence drought, which is currently affecting more than 45 percent of the continental U.S.

UN Report Cites Increased Frequency and Intensity of Extreme Weather Events to Promote Need for More Early Warning Systems

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the agency within the United Nations that specializes in meteorology, has just published its 2020 State of Climate Services report, which provides information on extreme weather and climate events. One of the biggest takeaways from the report is that weather, water, and climate hazards generate the majority of hazard-related loss and damage.

FEMA’s Updated Seismic Building Provisions

FEMA has just released FEMA P-2082, 2020 National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures. The release of the 2020 NEHRP Provisions marks the tenth edition of this widely recognized and reputable technical resource document since its first edition in 1985. Some of the changes in the 2020 edition include three added new site classes; updated requirements and limitations for irregularities; and a concept paper on resilience-based seismic design.

Microsoft Addresses Windows TCP/IP RCE/DoS Vulnerability

Microsoft has released a security update to address a protocol vulnerability—CVE-2020-16898—in Windows Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/IP stack handling of Internet Control Message Protocol version 6 (ICMPv6) Router Advertisement packets. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to take control of an affected system or cause a denial-of-service condition.
