The theme for the second week of National Preparedness Month is “Build a Kit.” While the “Build a Kit” webpage is primarily oriented towards individuals and families, with recommendations for equipment and supplies that should be included in a basic disaster kit, the separate “Business” webpage provides resources that are more relevant to organizations, including utilities. These resources include Ready Business Toolkits for specific kinds of disasters, including earthquakes, hurricanes, inland flooding, power outages, and more.

Additionally, for week two reminds utilities of its Analytical Preparedness Full-Scale Exercise Toolkit and Water Utility Public Awareness Kit. The first resource provides guidance for states, water utilities and laboratories to conduct their own exercise and prepare for any disaster. The second provides resources for the most effective communication methods through print, web, and television.
