Microsoft’s 365 software package is one of the most widely used products in the world but also one of the most targeted vectors where data breaches and cyberattacks occur. To protect data privacy and against data breaches, Microsoft released a Privacy Management tool. The privacy package continuously locates where personal data is stored on an enterprise network, maps it, and provides an aggregated view of an entity’s privacy posture. “With role-based access controls and data de-identified by default, Privacy Management for Microsoft 365 helps organizations to have end-to-end visibility of privacy risks at scale in an automated way,” according to Vasu Jakkal, corporate vice president for security, compliance and identity at Microsoft. The purpose of the new tool is also to enhance employees understanding of privacy risks and their ability to identify risk in the future. Visit HelpNetSecurity for more highlights on the Privacy Management Tool.

Another new tool for Microsoft 365 is the insider risk management solution. Insider threat incidents can occur in any organization, can be intentional or unintentional, and can be extremely damaging to an organization. The insider risk management tool allows companies to detect, investigate, and act on nefarious and inadvertent activities within their organization. The program allows administrators to set insider risk policies, set alert notifications, and triages the most urgent activities that need investigating. For more on the Insider Risk Management tool, visit BleeingComputer.
