Making ICS Easy for Water and Wastewater Systems

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) recently published a series of videos online that are intended to increase familiarization with and adoption of ICS, or the Incident Command System.

There are 15 videos, all of which have been posted to YouTube. They range from an introductory video to topics like integrated communications, establishment and transfer of command, and comprehensive resources management. These are all short videos, typically lasting between one and two minutes. They are not intended to be a substitute for full ICS training, but they can get utility staff interested in learning more. They are intended to be fun, with some bits of humor added here and there, and quick. ICS is a standardized approach to the command, control, and coordination of emergency response, providing a common hierarchy within which responders from multiple agencies can be effective. It is a component of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) in the U.S., where it has evolved into use in all-hazards situations. Access the videos at YouTube.
