EPA has published six case studies on water and wastewater utilities, of varying sizes, across the U.S. that have experienced and addressed supply chain challenges.

The case studies provide an overview of the challenges, best practices, and lessons learned. They include case studies about utilities from Massachusetts and New Hampshire joining together to negotiate best possible prices with water treatment chemical and laboratory supply vendors through bulk purchasing, Des Moines Water Works working with a supplier and manufacturer to resolve a potential carbon dioxide shortage, and Trinity River Authority taking action to mitigate the supply chain impacts of Winter Storm Uri, among others. The information in these case studies can be used by the water sector to prepare for or respond to future challenges. Access the case studies at EPA.
