CISA has published a new two-page infographic that provides actionable recommendations and highlights resources intended to prevent and mitigate workplace violence.

As noted in the document, each year organizations across the country experience violent incidents that profoundly impact employee safety, morale, and trust. Sometimes they even result in severe injury or death. Unfortunately, many of these situations could have been prevented, with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security reporting 25 percent of incidents aren’t reported. The recommendations and resources presented in the infographic are meant to help organizations cultivate a security culture that can lead to intervention before incidents occur. As the document notes, it’s essential for all employees to be involved in preventing workplace violence and other incidents given the role they can play in observing and responding to potential precursors to incidents like threats, harassment, and other disruptive behavior. Not only should they be encouraged to report incidents, but organizations should also develop standard operating procedures for intaking information and assessing and acting on reported incidents. The document also emphasizes that if you or your organization have concerns about a potential immediate threat of violence in the workplace, contact local law enforcement immediately.
