Nothing screams cybersecurity is serious like personally being on the hook for an entire organization. Personal liability of executives for cyber incidents isn’t new. But when safety of the cyber-physical systems (CPS) that operate within industrial environments is on the line, executives and boards need to be acutely aware of these systems and their vulnerabilities and intentionally pursue a sound risk management strategy for securing these assets. With that in mind, combined with the IBM 2020 X-Force Intelligence Index reporting attacks targeting ICS and OT have increased by over 2000 percent since 2018 (covered in the Security & Resilience Update for May 21, 2020), Gartner predicts a liability for CPS attacks ultimately extending to 75% of CEOs by 2024. For more considerations on CEO accountability for CPS, read the post at Tripwire.
