On August 9 at 2 pm ET / 11 am PT, WaterISAC will convene the next event in its quarterly Water Sector Natural Disaster Threat Briefings series. The focus of this briefing will be wildfires, which have been some of the most destructive and costly natural disasters for communities and critical infrastructure. In the water and wastewater sector, wildfires have threatened and damaged infrastructure and caused significant operational impacts. To help its members better understand these events and manage the risks, WaterISAC will welcome briefers who will provide a wildfire outlook and an overview of wildfire mitigation best practices for utilities.
Personnel from the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC), which serves as the U.S. government’s focal point for coordinating the mobilization of resources to wildfires, will provide the wildfire outlook. Through its Predictive Services, where the briefers reside, the NICC also provides related products designed to be used for critical decision-making surrounding incident management and resource allocation. Next, staff from the Rainbow Municipal Water District (RMWD) in Southern California will present on how they’ve enhanced their response capabilities to minimize the impacts of wildfires, informed by their experiences with several past events. RMWD has best practices and lessons learned to share in terms of working with local fire agencies and other partners, developing and coordinating a wildfire response plan, and protecting infrastructure, among other insights.
WaterISAC members only.
Register any time. No need to cancel if you can’t attend.
